Mrs. Ann Dettmann

I grew up in Jordan as the eighth child of Vernon and Rosemary Elke, and I am proud to be a graduate of Saint John the Baptist School!  Returning to serve as principal of the school that helped shape my faith and education is a blessing.I began my career as an elementary educator, teaching for more than 20 years in grades 2–4. Throughout my years in education, I also served as a Literacy Coordinator, Intervention Coordinator, and Instructional Coach, experiences that strengthened my passion for supporting both students and teachers in their growth and success.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Mankato State University, my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and my Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. I also hold a Certificate in Catholic School Leadership from the University of St. Thomas.

I am passionate about providing students with an education rooted in faith, academic excellence, and a strong sense of belonging. It is a privilege to walk alongside our students, families, faculty, and parish community as we continue the mission of Saint John the Baptist Catholic School.

My husband, David, and I live in Norwood Young America. We are blessed with three adult children. Our son Erich lives in his own home in Norwood Young America. Our son Karl and his wife Megan live in Oklahoma. Our daughter Emma and her husband Seth are currently living in Australia.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time chatting with family and friends over a cup of tea, shopping, tending my flower gardens, and reading all kinds of books.  I am active in my home church of Ascension in Norwood Young America acting as a sacristan and visiting the homebound with my husband.  God has given me a lovely, full life, and I am very grateful for each part!
