Join our team at Saint John the Baptist Church and School, where you'll play a vital role in supporting our school's mission of providing a nurturing Catholic education. We're seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to transport students safely to and from school and on special outings.
Position Overview
Employment Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Hours: Approximately 15-20 hours per week (about 3 hours per day)
Schedule: School days only, following the academic calendar
Compensation: $20-$30/hr based on experience; no benefits
Start Date: Immediate
As a Bus Driver, you'll be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of our students, fostering a positive and disciplined environment on board. This role aligns with our Catholic values, emphasizing respect, integrity, and community. While Catholic faith is not required, all employees must respect Catholic doctrine and practices. As a condition of employment, you'll complete the Archdiocese's Enhanced Essential Three training for safe environments (details at http://safe-environment.archspm.org/essential-3/).
Key Responsibilities
Safely drive assigned routes to pick up and drop off students at designated stops, adhering to time schedules and traffic laws.
Transport students and staff on field trips, planning efficient routes as needed.
Maintain order and appropriate discipline among student passengers to ensure a safe ride.
Perform daily safety and operational inspections of the vehicle, completing required worksheets and reporting any mechanical issues.
Service the bus with fuel, oil, and tire checks; maintain cleanliness for optimal safety.
Complete annual insurance training and other required professional development.
Communicate any concerns promptly to the School Administrative Assistant, Principal, and parents.
Maintain a valid driver's license and DOT health card at all times.
Wash the bus as needed and perform other related duties to support school operations.
Qualifications
Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with school bus endorsement (or willingness to obtain).
Clean driving record and ability to pass background checks, including those required by the Archdiocese, state, and federal regulations.
Excellent communication skills—pleasant, clear, and effective in verbal and written interactions.
Strong sense of integrity, honesty, and the ability to work under pressure with interruptions.
Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, plan routes, and coordinate schedules.
Physical ability to bend, kneel for inspections, and sit for extended periods during routes.
Commitment to child safety, confidentiality, and compliance with all relevant laws, including child protection and safe environment policies.
Experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle preferred; training provided as needed.
